Welcome

President's Welcome

Dear MASFAA Colleagues,

As we enter the 2026-2027 academic year, the challenges already seem insurmountable. New federal regulations are piling up faster than afternoon traffic on the Mass Pike, and as usual, the guidance seems to change daily.

The good news is that we have done this before: prior prior year, COVID waivers and HEERF funds, FASFA simplification. We made it over each of those hurdles, and we will make it over this one too. In fact, we are lucky. We have a secret weapon; an incredible community of aid professionals dedicated to helping our students and each other.

Already our members and committees have sponsored programming about the graduate lending landscape, done outreach to our federal and state political leaders, and shared information and insights about loan proration. More programming is forthcoming at our annual conference this November in Hyannis and throughout the year in both in-person and virtual formats.

We will rise to this challenge together. If you have expertise to share, our committees can use you. If you know something that might benefit others in our association, consider submitting a conference session proposal.

It is my honor to serve as your President during this challenging time because I know what we can do as a community.

With gratitude,
James W. McGehee
MASFAA President, 2026-2027
