James McGehee
Director of Financial Assistance, Bentley University
Statement of Candidacy:
I am honored to be nominated for the opportunity to represent the MASFAA membership as President Elect. I believe very strongly in the mission of MASFAA and have dedicated my time and energy to developing training for MASFAA members in order to advance that mission. I would bring that energy and experience to this elected role.
I am Director of Financial Assistance at Bentley University, where I have worked for the past 9 years. Prior to working in financial aid, I worked in university scholarship management for Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and in undergraduate admission at LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia. I received financial aid training through the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators New Aid Officer Workshop and MASFAA Leadership Academy.
As a MASFAA member, I have served on the Professional Development & Training Committee since 2019, and as chair or co-chair of that committee since 2020. Through the PD&T Committee, I have led several Just the Facts training sessions over the years and led two cohorts of the MASFAA Leadership Academy. Additionally, I have organized the annual tax training sessions and other ad hoc training events. For the past year, I have served as Member at Large, representing the interests of four year private institutions to MASFAA’s Executive Council.
Outside of work, I am an advocate for better public transportation in the Boston region and the dad to a very spry fourteen-year-old dog.
Matt Gingras
Senior Financial Aid Counselor, Bunker Hill Community College
Statement of Candidacy:
I have been at Bunker Hill Community College for a combined 6 years, and in our financial aid office for 2.5. In that time, I have truly fallen in love with the aid profession, from the time I started in our Student Central One Stop to what I do now.
Since 2022, I have been a part of MASFAA’s Professional Development & Training Committee, where I have also been the co-chair for the past two years. It’s here that I immersed myself in MASFAA, also joining the Communications committee and serving on executive council as part of my chair responsibilities.
In 2023, in addition to completing the MASFAA Leadership Academy, I was named the Charles E. Jones Award winner at conference. I also completed MASFAA’s Just the FACTS! program in 2022.
I believe in clear cut communications, and I believe I would serve the title of Secretary well in this role. I have great respect for the position and the organization, and I hope to serve it well in the future.
Adrian Martin
Assistant Dean of Financial Aid and Diversity Outreach, Amherst College
Statement of Candidacy:
I currently serve as Assistant Dean of Financial Aid and Diversity Outreach at Amherst College, where I’ve worked since 2022. I’m passionate about improving access, advancing equity, and guiding students and families through the financial aid process. Before joining Amherst College, I built valuable experience in the nonprofit sector supporting members of the disabled community.
My active involvement with MASFAA includes serving on the Financial Wellness Education Committee and the FAFSA Day Committee, as well as participating in the 2024-2025 MASFAA Leadership Academy cohort. Through these experiences, I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of building professional community to strengthen our work and better serve our students.
I’m pursuing the Secretary role because I value clear communication, meticulous attention to detail, and fostering connections among higher education professionals in the financial aid sector and beyond. I would be honored to serve in a position that directly supports MASFAA’s mission and ensures all members remain informed and engaged in the important work of our Executive Council.
