Just the FACTS!

A Subcommittee of Professional Development and Training

Registration for 2011-2012 Just the Facts! is now closed.

The workshop series was held at Wellesley College on successive Tuesdays. The dates were --

January 10; January 17; January 24; February 7; February 14, 2012

Registering for the program is a commitment to attending all five workshop dates. There is no scheduled workshop during the last week of January since the New England Regional Meeting of the College Board is being held at that time.

 Purpose

The purpose of this subcommittee is to plan and implement basic training in the administration of federal aid programs that will be provided, free of charge, to novice members of the profession. The committee will recruit experienced trainers from the membership to review, customize NASFAA‘s CORE training materials, and present the material in a workshop format on an annual basis.

 Composition

The subcommittee is chaired by one of the PD&T co-chairs and is comprised of volunteer committee members.

 2011-2012 Objectives

  1. Recruit active, enthusiastic members of MASFAA who have extensive experience in financial aid to serve as trainers.
  2. Plan and administer a training workshop for approximately 15 trainers.
  3. Create a small logistics group within the subcommittee to help plan for the many details that go into an undertaking of this nature.
  4. Provide NASFAA Core materials and the previous year‘s MASFAA Just the FACTS! Power Point slides to each trainer. These materials will be used to create customized and up-to-date presentations in a modular format. An IM module will also be offered.
  5. Plan the training series to occur over a 5-week time span. The program is currently given in one location. In prior years, it occurred both in the western and eastern parts of the state (two sites). In the future, the committee may opt to administer two sites on a bi-annual basis. Sites must be easily accessible with preferred access to public transportation. Sites must be low to no-cost to the MASFAA.
  6. Announce the workshop series to the MASFAA membership; anticipated participation not to exceed 30-40 trainees at each site.
  7. Conduct a Train the Trainer meeting for the trainers to get together to brainstorm and share ideas and best practices.
  8. Distribute program content electronically as much as possible. NASFAA CORE material will be available to participants, along with material specifically developed by the trainers for their modules. Material will include exercises and homework which participants are expected to complete.
  9. Conduct a debriefing and evaluation of the workshop.
